My daughter, then 4 years old, knew that no hydrogenated oil was one such rule. I have this sweet, happy memory of her being in the store with me and she found some crackers she wanted. She brought them to me, turned the box to the ingredient list, and showed it to me, asking, "Mommy, does this have hy-dro-gen-at-ed oil in it?" in her squeeky little voice. An older woman was nearby and she turned to us with wide eyes and a dropped-open mouth. I was so tickled and so proud.
Fast forward 10 years and when my teenage daughter reads labels she gets very frustrated because almost everything in a conventional grocery contains hydrogenated oils.
In November of 2013, the FDA removed trans fats (hydrogenated oils) from the "generally recognized as safe" list. The FDA commissioner, Margaret A. Hamburg, actually came out and said that further removing trans fats from our food could prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 coronary-related deaths each year!
If this does result in removing trans fats from our food supply, it's going to phased out over a long time. Manufacturers will have to reformulate their products, change labels/ packaging, and more. In the meantime, you now have confirmation to avoid this food additive at all costs. As always, you will never receive anything with trans fats from Delish 365.
And in closing, I do want to call your attention to a very important lesson from all of this: for over a decade, the FDA allowed our food supply to be tainted with a food additive that can cause heart disease. Do not put your trust in the authorities that govern our food supply, water supply, pharmaceuticals, and anything else. Make informed choices for yourself and your family, and you'll all be so much healthier for it! Don't wait for the authorities to catch up with what we health-conscious citizens already know! It took over 10 years for the FDA to realize that 27,000 people are dying a year from an additive that they allowed for all this time.
